MEMO ON “BEST OF BOTH WORLDS”

 

            The Best of Both Worlds is exactly that on Lake Burton. The property has two cabins on almost 4 acres of land, including the lake cabin (Draketown Lane) and the hilltop cabin (Hilltop Circle)– both with incredible views, some of the best on the Lake!!

 

             When you are in the lake cabin, you feel like you are on top of the lake–it is that close to the water! You enjoy the beautiful “big water” views year round, but also, you enjoy the gorgeous sunrise over Charlie Mountain. At night, from the master bedroom, you sleep under the stars. It is difficult to go to sleep on a beautiful night because you are afraid you will miss a falling star or a rising moon. I love to watch the fog form on the lake at night, and in the morning, watch the fog as it dances on top of the water especially in the early fall. Once the leaves turn, you sit on the deck of the lake cabin and look at the panoramic view of color, and as my nephew said, “it looks like a bowl of fruity pebbles” all around!! The lake is so peaceful and serene during the school year, and then it is bustling with activity during the summer months. The change in pace is fun and exciting!

 

            My favorite, however, is the Hilltop property. For one thing, the Hilltop cabin is easy to access. Though many properties on Lake Burton require a long and winding (almost nauseous) drive, this property does not. It is a straight shot off of Hwy 197, and is easy to get to even in snow. But the best part is the incredible view from the deck and inside the Hilltop cabin—you feel on top of the world!! During the summer months, after a day of play at the lake, it is so wonderful to escape the crowd and retreat to the Hilltop, for privacy and relaxation. Sometimes even during the day, while the kids are active tubing and swimming, I will sneak up to the Hilltop house to catch a nap or read a novel. You still feel part of the lake, but you view it from above. This property has a great view of the lake and surrounding mountains, but complete privacy in all directions. In the evening, I enjoy firing up the grill with a cool glass of wine and sitting on the deck looking over the lake and Charlie Mountain, as the sun sets in the sky while the crickets and stars emerge. On July 4^th, it is so exciting to watch the fireworks going off all over the lake from the Hilltop view. Absolute magic!

 

            Because the property lies on the western part of the lake, we do not have to deal with late afternoon sun. Many of our lake friends have to endure the lovely- but extremely hot- sunset, and often are not able to grill out at that time because of the heat. On this property, you look forward to the evening fire (and your sweat shirt) as the breeze is often chilly even in the summer months on the Hilltop. The cabins do not have air conditioning because they don’t need it! There is heat for the winter months, however. 

                                                                             

            This property is not the fanciest on Lake Burton, but it is definitely one of the most beautiful and has the potential to be the best! The best use of the property would be to build a large lodge on the Hilltop (or two or more separate homes), and renovate the lake property to make it the “county club” for the property. In other words, stay on the hill and play at the lake!! Of course there will always be bedrooms at the lake. And it is all fee simple!

 

            I can’t say enough about this property. I have had to endure some tragic events and have found peace and solace here on Lake Burton. It is a wonderful place to have fun and celebrate, but also to grieve, soul search, and truly get away from it all. On this one piece of property, you absolutely get the best of both worlds!!
